As a writer, Gray was a 2017 Finalist for the Made in NY Pilot Prize. An IFP Emerging Storyteller alum, Gray’s mockumentary web series Understudies, starring Richard Kind, David Rasche and Elizabeth Ashley was optioned as a pilot and her 2013 tragicomic short Socks and Bonds was a festival favorite that found its home on PBS.
As a playwright, her plays have been translated into multiple languages and performed around the world. Most notably, her play Wish I Had a Sylvia Plath, a comedy about suicide, won the 2007 Fringe First Award for ‘Innovative and Outstanding New Writing’, an award shared with Tracey Letts. Her gothic comedy Southern Discomfort, a collection of portraits of Southerners based on interviews she conducted over several years with Southern people from all walks of life, ran off-Broadway after touring the US and the UK.
